Prepping a hole before filling:

Cleaning the area:

  • Ensure the surface is dry, oil free, dirt free and clean. Any moisture may interfere with the adhesion of the filler to the substrate. Except for Hard as Rock Powder filler which will still adhere in a damp environment (but not wet).
  • Remove any large debris (leaves, stones, twigs and other loose items).

    Using Primer Bonder:
  • Filling a hole using a water-based filler such as All purpose, Easy On, Hard as Rock and Ready Mixed Tubes may require using Primer Bonder. Some holes may be exceptionally dusty and require Primer Bonder to stabilize and improve adhesion before the filler is applied. Check out the range for more information on Primer Bonder.

    Prepping before overpainting:

  • Ensure any filled areas are fully dried through before overpainting. Areas that feel touch dry may still hold some moisture which will affect the painted area if overcoated too soon.
  • If a filled area has been sanded down, ensure any dust or debris is fully removed from the surface before over painting for a super smooth finish.

Preparation before adhesive & sealant application:

  • Ensure the surface is dry, oil free, dirt free and clean. Any moisture may interfere with the adhesion.
  • If bonding two items, it is important to plan how you will clamp them together in the setting stage to ensure no movement takes place. Planning this before you start will result in a more professional finish.

    Preparation before using 2-part Fillers:

  • When using 2-part fillers such as Powerfil, Professional Woodfil and Stonefil all areas must be fully prepared before mixing your filler. You have only a few minutes until the filler will set rock hard. Avoid this delay or your filler will not bond effectively to the substrate.
  • Ensure the surface is dry, oil free, dirt free and clean. Any moisture may interfere with the adhesion.

    Whilst setting:
  • Once the 2-part filler has gelled and is setting solid it will generate heat, possibly up to 80°C. Ensure the surface being applied to can withstand this temperature.
